Zverev’s Impressive Victory in Paris
Alexander Zverev has officially overtaken Carlos Alcaraz in the ATP rankings, securing the No. 2 position following a successful run to the Paris Masters final on November 2. In an impressive semifinal match, Zverev demonstrated his consistency by defeating last year’s champion, Holger Rune, with a score of 6-3, 7-6(4). This victory sets Zverev up for a showdown with French player Ugo Humbert, who defeated Karen Khachanov in the other semifinal, winning 6-7, 6-4, 6-3.
Strong Performance on Hard Courts
Humbert is currently on an impressive 13-match winning streak on indoor hard courts and previously eliminated Alcaraz in the third round of the tournament. Zverev’s advancement to his 12th career Masters 1000 final has earned him a minimum of 560 ranking points, bringing his total to 7,365 points. This puts him 155 points ahead of Alcaraz, although he still trails World No. 1 Jannik Sinner by nearly 4,000 points. “It’s great to be back in the position I once held,” Zverev commented after securing his spot in the Paris Masters final. Zverev is determined to win the Paris Masters to improve his finals record this year, which currently stands at one win and three losses. After his victory over Rune, he immediately began training for his upcoming match against Humbert.

The German player has also secured a place in this year’s ATP Finals, offering another chance to challenge himself against the best in the sport. “I’m working on improving my returns because if you don’t return well, 90% of the time, Sinner and Alcaraz will finish the points,” Zverev explained. Zverev’s career has seen ups and downs, most notably after his remarkable 2020 US Open final appearance, during which he claimed six titles, including the 2021 ATP Finals. However, a severe ankle injury at Roland Garros 2022 hindered his progress.
