What Happened to J.Lo’s Tours?
On May 31st, international media reported that Jennifer Lopez canceled her summer North American tour, This Is Me… Live. According to an announcement from Live Nation, the tour’s promoter, the 1969-born singer needed time to rest and spend with her family, children, and close friends.
Jennifer Lopez Cancels Summer Tour Amid Speculation
Initially, the tour was scheduled to kick off on June 26th in Orlando, Florida, and end in Houston, Texas. However, media outlets and fans speculated that the real reason for the cancellation was due to disappointing ticket sales. Despite efforts to lower ticket prices to as little as $10 in some locations, Jennifer Lopez struggled to sell out any of her shows.
Originally titled This Is Me… Now: The Tour, the tour was inspired by her latest album, released earlier this year. Unfortunately, the album failed to make an impact, debuting at #38 on the Billboard 200 with only 14,000 copies sold, making it the lowest-selling album of Jennifer Lopez’s career.
Low Demand and Tour Renaming Efforts
The low performance of the album did little to boost ticket sales for the tour, leading to the cancellation of seven shows due to insufficient demand. In an attempt to recover, Jennifer Lopez renamed the tour to This Is Me… Live: The Greatest Hits in April, signaling a shift to performing her biggest hits rather than focusing on the new album. While there was some improvement in ticket sales, it wasn’t enough to save the tour.
Struggles with Ticket Sales
Denver in particular struggled, with only 50% of tickets sold, while overall, Jennifer Lopez managed to sell just 70% of tickets for all scheduled shows before the tour was called off. Despite the efforts to salvage the tour, the continued low demand forced the cancellation.
The cancellation of Jennifer Lopez’s summer tour raises questions about whether the singer has lost her star power. With the disappointing performance of her latest album and low ticket sales, it seems the singer is facing challenges reconnecting with her once massive fanbase.
