Top 5 “Useless” Animals with Surprisingly Low IQs
1.Honey Badger
The honey badger, a member of the weasel family, is known for its fearless and “reckless” personality. Instead of avoiding danger, it tends to attack its enemies, even when facing larger and more dangerous adversaries. This behavior often puts them in unnecessary danger. However, one remarkable trait of the honey badger is its ability to self-detoxify. If it accidentally consumes a poisonous snake, it can recover after a short period of paralysis, thanks to its unique resilience.
2.Panda
Despite their adorable appearance, pandas have relatively low intelligence. They often exhibit laziness, minimal activity, and only mate once a year. Mother pandas sometimes fail to recognize their offspring and may unintentionally harm them. Their diet, which mainly consists of bamboo, provides little nutrition and protein, which could contribute to their underdeveloped brains.
3.Turkey
Turkeys have a peculiar habit of “rain bathing.” They often struggle to differentiate between rain and sunshine, taking some time to realize they are standing in the rain. Male turkeys are prone to making foolish mistakes when choosing a mate. They can be deceived by fake models of female turkeys, even if it’s just a fake head.
4.Kakapo Parrot
Unlike other parrots, the Kakapo is flightless and often quite heavy, moving at a slow pace. This unique parrot species has one of the lowest IQs among its kind, unable to learn to speak or even recognize predators, which leads to its lack of adaptability in the wild. Currently, the Kakapo is facing the threat of extinction. Its inability to adapt and protect itself makes it highly reliant on human protection and care.
5.Siberian Musk Deer
The Siberian Musk Deer, often dubbed the “Silly Deer,” is known for its strange behavior. When confronted with danger, instead of fleeing, these deer often attempt to hide by burying their heads in the ground. This behavior stems from a mistaken belief that if they can’t see the predator, the predator can’t see them either. Such behavior makes them easy targets for hunters. Their lack of proper response to danger puts this species at risk of extinction. Conservation efforts and behavioral research are necessary to better understand and protect them from further decline.
These five animals, with their unusual behaviors and limited cognitive abilities, remind us that intelligence in the animal kingdom comes in many forms, some more unexpected than others!
