Taylor Swift fans may have seen the film before, but they didn’t like the ending. The “Exile” singer’s record-breaking movie, “The Eras Tour”, was snubbed in the 2025 Grammy Award nominations for Best Music Film, despite its incredible success.
The Eras Tour film, which runs for 2 hours and 49 minutes, meets the Grammy Award parameters, as the coveted Grammy goes to the artist, video director, and producer of a concert or performance film. The Eras Tour film took audiences around the world into theaters, filling aisles with fans dancing and singing along to Taylor Swift‘s hits.
The film grossed over $250 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing concert film of all time. In the midst of the Hollywood strike, Swift made a strategic deal with SAG-AFTRA, bypassing production studios and going directly to AMC as the distributor. This move earned her a Golden Globe nomination in a new category for “cinematic and box office achievement”. Despite this recognition, Barbie ultimately won the award.
When the 2025 Grammy nominations were revealed, only five films made the cut for Best Music Film:
- “American Symphony”, about Jon Batiste and his wife
- “June”, about June Carter Cash
- “Kings From Queens”, about Run DMC
- “Stevie Van Zandt: Disciple”
- “The Greatest Night In Pop”, about the iconic charity single “We Are the World”
Despite the Eras Tour movie missing out, Taylor Swift was recognized in six other categories at the 2025 Grammys. Her album “The Tortured Poets Department” earned nominations for Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album. Her hit single “Fortnight”, featuring Post Malone, is nominated for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Music Video. Additionally, her collaboration with Gracie Abrams on “Us” is up for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.
