Taylor Swift Leads VMA Nominations
Taylor Swift is the leading nominee for the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), with a total of 10 nominations, including all three major categories: Video of the Year, Artist of the Year, and Song of the Year.
From the standpoint of MTV’s announcement on August 6, Taylor Swift once again dominates the categories with her song “Fortnight,” a collaboration with Post Malone. In the highly coveted Video of the Year category, she will compete against Ariana Grande’s “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love),” Billie Eilish’s “Lunch,” Doja Cat’s “Paint The Town Red,” Eminem’s “Houdini,” and SZA’s “Snooze.”
Swift has previously won the Video of the Year award four times for “Bad Blood” (2015), “You Need to Calm Down” (2019), “All Too Well: The Short Film” (2022), and “Anti-Hero” (2023). Should she win this year, she will become the first artist to claim this award three years in a row.
In 2023, Taylor Swift made a significant impact at the VMAs, securing victories in nine categories. She currently holds 23 VMAs, trailing only behind Beyoncé’s record of 28. At 35 years old, Swift, an American singer-songwriter, first rose to fame with country music in 2006. Over her career spanning 10 albums, she has won 14 Grammy Awards and 29 Billboard Awards. In December 2023, the Guinness World Records recognized “The Eras Tour” as the highest-grossing tour of all time, surpassing $1 billion in revenue. Her net worth is estimated at $1.1 billion.
“Fortnight,” from her 11th album, The Tortured Poets Department, was released on April 19. The song garnered 25.2 million streams on Spotify within its first day, making it the most-streamed song of the day. Post Malone follows with nine nominations, mostly for his collaboration with Swift on “Fortnight.” Sabrina Carpenter, Eminem, and Ariana Grande are tied with six nominations each, including Artist of the Year. This is Sabrina Carpenter’s debut year in the VMAs race.
The MTV Video Music Awards, first held in 1984, is organized by MTV. This year’s event will take place on September 10 at UBS Arena in New York. Fans can purchase tickets to attend the live show, with prices ranging from $1,745 to $3,750.
