Taylor Swift Calls Cancellation of Vienna Shows ‘Devastating’ and Explains Her Silence
LONDON (AP) — In her first statement since the abrupt cancellation of her Vienna concerts, Taylor Swift has described the situation as “devastating.” The announcement follows the cancellation of her shows due to a thwarted terror plot.
On Wednesday, Swift shared her heartfelt message on Instagram: “Having our Vienna shows canceled was devastating. The reason for the cancellations filled me with a new sense of fear and an overwhelming amount of guilt because so many people had planned on attending those shows.”
Swift expressed her gratitude to the authorities, noting, “Thanks to them, we were grieving concerts and not lives.” She also addressed her decision to remain silent, explaining that she chose to wait until the European leg of her Eras Tour was complete to ensure fan safety. “Let me be very clear: I am not going to speak publicly if I think it might provoke those who would want to harm the fans who come to my shows,” she said.
During the aftermath of the cancellations, Swift’s representatives did not respond to multiple inquiries from The Associated Press and other media outlets, and her social media accounts had been quiet. Swift explained, “In cases like this one, ‘silence’ is actually showing restraint, and waiting to express yourself at the right time. My priority was finishing our European tour safely, and it’s with great relief that I can say we did that.”
