Wilson Expected to Remain Starting Quarterback
Wilson is expected to remain the starting quarterback when Pittsburgh returns after their break in Week 10, but there’s still a possibility that Fields could return to the starting role. According to reports, Fields may make a comeback in 2024. One scenario is that if Wilson’s performance declines, Fields could be considered for a return to the starting lineup. So far, Wilson has left a strong impression on the Steelers’ decision-makers, especially with his passing abilities, an area where Fields has yet to fully excel. Additionally, the team’s offense seems to operate more smoothly with Wilson at the helm.
Potential for Special Offensive Packages Involving Fields
Another possible scenario would involve using Fields in special offensive packages while keeping Wilson on the field. Although Fields had four games with under 200 passing yards and only one game over 300 yards, his rushing ability remains a major advantage. Over his four-year career, Fields has accumulated 2,451 rushing yards and 19 rushing touchdowns, including 231 yards and five touchdowns in 2024 alone.
Wilson’s Experience vs. Fields’ Dynamism
With 13 years of NFL experience, Wilson has totaled 5,317 rushing yards and 30 rushing touchdowns, but at this stage, he’s no longer as dynamic a runner as Fields. Nonetheless, Wilson has built upon Fields’ groundwork, positioning the Steelers for a playoff contention. It appears both quarterbacks will continue competing for the starting role until the end of the season.
