After a long hiatus, Shawn Mendes has announced his return to music with a new album titled “Shawn.” This album features 12 songs and is scheduled for release on October 18. Prior to that, the singer revealed that he will release two tracks, “Why Why Why” and “Isn’t That Enough,” on his birthday, August 8.
Additionally, Shawn Mendes has unveiled the album cover, which bears his name. Unlike his princely and charming appearance from previous years, this comeback showcases a completely different image: rugged and more mature.
Many fans may be shocked and unfamiliar with his new look, but knowing that the singer, born in 1998, has gone through psychological crises, many will likely understand the reasons behind this change.
Sharing about this comeback, Shawn wrote on his personal page: “Music truly can be a healing medicine. Two years ago, I had no idea who I was. A year ago, I couldn’t step into the studio without experiencing panic attacks. So being here with 12 beautifully completed songs really feels like a gift. Honestly, I have to thank my friends and family. Life can be very harsh at times, but having people you truly trust to get through everything with makes it much better. I couldn’t have made it through the past years without everyone by my side.”
Before this, Shawn’s most recent album, “Wonder,” was released in 2020. He also went on tour for two years but had to cancel midway due to psychological pressure. On July 29, 2022, Shawn Mendes shared on his personal page that he wasn’t fully ready for the world tour, even though he had been eager to return to the stage after a long hiatus due to the pandemic. Therefore, he had to cancel the remaining parts of the tour in Europe, North America, and the UK after consulting with his team of medical experts.
Shawn Mendes understands that fans had been waiting for a long time to attend this tour, so making the cancellation announcement was not easy for him. “I promise to come back as soon as I am healed,” Shawn Mendes added.
Previously, on July 8, 2022, Shawn Mendes postponed his Wonder tour until further notice, sharing: “Canceling the show breaks my heart. But the truth is, I started touring at 15 and it became really tough to be away from family and friends. After a few years of rest, I thought I was ready to return, but that decision seemed too rushed. The pressure pushed me to my limit.”
After canceling the world tour, Shawn Mendes spent much time “healing” his soul with family and friends. He was mostly absent from entertainment events, occasionally updating his situation on social media to reassure fans. The singer began growing a beard last year and has maintained this image ever since. By 2024, Shawn gradually returned to performing in music programs and officially made a comeback this August.
