Shawn Mendes has recently unveiled his heartfelt new single, “Heart of Gold.” This evocative track, led by acoustic guitar, is complemented by an intimate music video showcasing Mendes performing against a vibrant backdrop.
“Heart of Gold” is set to feature on Mendes’ upcoming LP, Shawn, which is scheduled for release on November 15, 2024. The singer delivered a moving live performance of the song at the Brooklyn Paramount Theater last month, dedicated to the late Liam Payne. During the performance, Mendes shared with the audience that the song reflects the themes of grief and remembrance, stating, “It’s about grieving those we miss with tears, and it’s also about celebrating them and who they were and what they left in this world.”
“I just want to take a second to send so much love to him wherever he is up there,” Mendes expressed. “Liam, we love you. The world is crying for you, brother, and we’re all praying for your son and your family. I miss you. This one’s for you tonight, Liam, from all of us.”
Following the release of “Heart of Gold,” Mendes took to Instagram to share a heartfelt message, writing, “This one’s for you Dejomi.”
Originally slated for release on October 18, Mendes decided to push back the album to November 15. He explained to fans that he needed “a little bit more time to bring some new inspiration and ideas to life.” This upcoming album marks Mendes’ highly anticipated fifth studio release, following his successful 2020 album, Wonder.
In July, Mendes first revealed his plans for the new album, debuting the lead single “Isn’t That Enough.” He emphasized the healing power of music, stating in an Instagram post, “Music really can be medicine. Two years ago, I felt like I had absolutely no idea who I was. A year ago, I couldn’t step into a studio without falling into complete panic. So to be here right now with 12 beautiful finished songs feels like such a gift.”
