Using Music as Therapy
Colombian singer Shakira has turned to music to cope with her breakup from former footballer Gerard Piqué. In an interview with GQ Spain on October 22, she shared the creative journey behind her upcoming album, Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, set for release in March. Shakira revealed, “For months after the breakup, I remained silent and mourned for myself, but everything changed when I started writing music. That became my way of healing, and it will always be.”
Reflections on Love and Trust
She admitted that her relationship with Gerard Piqué altered her view on love and affected her personality. “At least at this point, I’ve lost trust in others,” Shakira confessed. However, this reluctance to open up has inspired her creatively, fueling her to create new music during her healing process.
Heartbreak’s Impact on Creativity
In a Rolling Stone interview in July, Shakira called the end of her 11-year relationship “perhaps the biggest pain of my life,” explaining how it sometimes impacted her work. She described heartbreak as “someone stabbing a hole in my chest,” and expressed feeling as though people “can see right through me.”
Family and Separation
Shakira and Gerard Piqué began their relationship in 2011 and have two sons, Milan (11) and Sasha (9), though they never married. In mid-2022, Spanish media speculated that Piqué was unfaithful after he was seen frequently partying in Barcelona nightclubs. A few weeks later, the couple confirmed their separation. Since then, Shakira has attempted to move her children to Miami to escape media attention, while Piqué disagreed, wanting to stay close to them.
The Queen of Latin Music
Known as the Queen of Latin music, Shakira has earned numerous prestigious music awards and holds several Guinness World Records. Following her breakup, rumors linked her romantically to F1 driver Lewis Hamilton and British actor Lucien Laviscount.
Upcoming Tour Announcement
In April, Shakira announced her world tour, Celebration for My Wolfpack, to promote Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran. Initially set to start in November, she postponed the North American leg to May 2025 due to high demand and plans to move shows from arenas to larger stadiums. The tour will restart after she completes her Latin American dates.
