Some fans believe that Shakira is using too many creative elements from the Eras Tour for her upcoming tour.
These accusations arose from news that Shakira’s upcoming world tour broke one of Taylor’s previous records, as she became the first female artist to sell out five consecutive shows at Estadio GNP Seguros in Mexico City, according to Marca. Taylor Swift previously held the record with four sold-out shows at this stadium during her Eras Tour.
Taylor’s fan community has shared evidence of Shakira ‘copying‘ their idol, including marketing campaigns from Shakira’s team that closely resemble those of Taylor Swift, along with similar products, layouts, and stage designs.
One fan stated, “Clearly, this inspiration comes from Taylor Swift’s most famous tour of all time. But if this spreads widely, they will struggle to prove that it’s not just copying someone else’s work.” Another joked, “Shakira’s team might as well call this Taylor’s Eras Tour.”
A video of Shakira rehearsing with dancers for this tour was also criticized by audiences, who accused her of “copying” Taylor Swift’s choreography.
A viewer commented, “She even jumps into the water just like Taylor; it’s funny. I think Shakira and her team have studied the Eras Tour carefully to create something similar.”
Other comments added, “If Taylor copied someone, they would clearly never stop talking badly about her and tearing her down…”
Meanwhile, some other Taylor Swift fans expressed sympathy for the Hips Don’t Lie singer: “It’s okay because we love Shakira”; “Shakira is carrying on this legacy with a Latin identity”; “Shakira had many records before Taylor became famous.”
While some fans expressed concerns about the legality of these similarities, others humorously suggested that Shakira is intentionally copying Swift’s success. Notably, supportive comments from fans praised the admiration between the two artists, highlighting Shakira’s legendary status and her inspiration from Swift. Despite the mixed reactions, Shakira’s tour, set to begin next February, has garnered significant support.
Shakira’s world tour will kick off in 2025 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on February 11, followed by stops in Peru, her homeland of Colombia, Chile, Argentina, and Mexico.
