The Russian Defense Ministry has announced the deployment of Su-34 bombers and FAB-500 bombs to attack Ukrainian forces near the border of Kursk province. The attack targeted the rear of Kiev’s troops stationed in Sumy province, Ukraine, with the aim of cutting off important supply lines. This is not only a strong military move, but also marks a strategic step in the escalating conflict, as Russia tries to increase pressure on the enemy’s weak points and assert its control in this tense border area.
On August 8, the Russian Defense Ministry said it had deployed Su-34 bombers and FAB-500 glide bombs to destroy many Ukrainian armored vehicles and manpower clusters in the border area with Kursk province (Russia), according to TASS news agency.
“Pilots of the Su-34 multirole supersonic fighter-bombers of the Russian Aerospace Forces carried out air-launched weapons strikes against military equipment of Ukrainian military units. The strikes were carried out using FAB-500 glide bombs equipped with guidance modules, which allow for high-precision strikes from a safe distance at the line of engagement,” the Russian Defense Ministry said.

According to the Ministry, after confirming the destruction of the attack targets, the crews returned to base safely.
In addition, the Northern Task Force, together with the Federal Security Service of Russia (FSB), carried out coordinated strikes against armed formations of Ukrainian forces in the Sudzhensky and Korenevsky districts (Kursk Oblast).
“The active actions of the state border guards in cooperation with the border guards, reinforcement units and Russian reservists prevented the advance of the Ukrainian forces. of the enemy. Moscow troops are attacking Ukrainian manpower and equipment clusters, preventing Kiev’s disparate groups from advancing deeper into the Kursk region,” the ministry said.
In addition, Russian forces are also focusing fire on a group of Ukrainian reserve forces in the rear, currently stationed in Sumy region.
Russia has accused a group of reservists of preparing to move to the border area of Kursk region to reinforce Ukrainian forces operating there.
In order to prevent this plan and cut off important supply lines, Russia has launched a heavy fire on Ukrainian units in the rear.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, on August 8, did not comment directly on the attacks on Kursk region, but stressed that Russia “should feel what it has done” to Ukraine. This statement reflects the rising tensions and Ukraine’s determination to respond to military actions from the Russia.
“Russia brought war to our country, and they should feel what they did,” the Kyiv Independent quoted Mr. Zelensky as saying.
