Real Madrid Sets New Record After 2-0 Win Over Atalanta In European Super Cup.
On the morning of August 15 in Warsaw (Poland), Real Madrid created a new historical milestone when they won 2-0 against Atalanta in the European Super Cup match. With this victory, Los Blancos set many remarkable records in Europe’s top tournament.
Before the match, Real Madrid was equal with Barcelona and AC Milan with 5 European Super Cup titles. However, the win over Atalanta took the La Liga side to the top of the table with a total of six titles, having lifted the European Super Cup in 2002, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2022 and 2024. They have previously lost three times in 1998, 2000 and 2018.
Veteran duo Dani Carvajal and Luka Modric have set a new record as the two most successful players in European Super Cup history, having featured in all five of Real Madrid’s victories since 2014. They have surpassed big names such as Dani Alves, Karim Benzema, Toni Kroos and Paolo Maldini, who have each featured in four victories.
Carvajal and Modric also set a record for the most appearances in the UEFA Super Cup since the tournament became a single-leg tie in 1997. They were involved in all five wins as well as the defeat against Atletico Madrid in 2018.
Carlo Ancelotti holds the record for being the most successful manager in European Cup/Champions League history, but also in the UEFA Super Cup, with five titles. Ancelotti won two titles with AC Milan in 2003 and 2007, and three more with Real Madrid in 2014, 2022 and 2024. He surpassed Pep Guardiola, who won the title with three different teams: Barcelona (2009, 2011), Bayern Munich (2013) and Man City (2023).
Not only is he a successful coach, Ancelotti also has an impressive record as a player, winning the European Super Cup once with AC Milan in 1990. In total, he has won the trophy six times, setting an impressive record. Guardiola also won once as a player, but only three years after Ancelotti.
These achievements not only affirm the class of Real Madrid and coach Ancelotti, but also prove the strength and durability of the team in Europe’s top tournaments.
