Rachel Zegler, the 23-year-old star of Disney’s upcoming Snow White, recently faced significant backlash after expressing strong opinions about the 2024 U.S. presidential election. In a now-deleted Instagram post, Zegler openly criticized Donald Trump’s victory and those who voted for him, sparking widespread controversy.
Zegler later apologized, acknowledging the emotional nature of her remarks. In a follow-up post directed at the American audience, she wrote: “Hatred and anger have pulled us further away from peace and understanding. I’m sorry for contributing to negative discussions. This week has been emotional for many of us, but I firmly believe everyone has a right to their opinions, even if they differ from mine. I am committed to contributing positively to a better tomorrow.”
Despite her apology, Zegler’s earlier comments ignited calls for Disney to remove her from Snow White, set for release next year. Critics highlighted her statement: “I hope Trump voters and Trump himself never find peace. Four more years of hate push us into a world I don’t want to live in. I’m heartbroken for my friends waking up in fear. I stand with you to cry, scream, and hope for change. The left must do better at paving the way forward.”
Zegler further criticized Trump supporters, stating: “This country is plagued by a severe illness, as shown by the large number of people supporting a man who threatens our democracy. It’s terrifying.” Her remarks extended to billionaire Elon Musk, a major supporter of Trump’s campaign. She urged users to leave Musk’s platform, stating: “I refuse to use apps funding that man’s election. Supporting Musk is helping his business thrive.”
The uproar has led to threats of boycotts against Disney, with many Trump supporters vowing not to watch the film. Critics argue her involvement alienates audiences, predicting Snow White could underperform both at the box office and on streaming platforms.
Rachel Zegler, who rose to fame with her award-winning role in West Side Story (2021), remains a polarizing figure amid her rising career, with recent roles in Shazam! Fury of the Gods and The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes.
