Queen Guitarist Brian May Suffers Minor Stroke, Shares Update with Fans
Legendary Queen guitarist Brian May recently revealed to his fans that he suffered a “minor stroke” but reassured everyone that he is on the mend. In a personal announcement on his website, the 76-year-old British rock icon detailed his frightening health scare but also shared positive news about his recovery.
May referred to the incident as a “health hiccup” and explained how the stroke briefly took away his control over one of his arms. For a musician of his caliber, this was understandably alarming. “All of a sudden, out of the blue, I didn’t have any control over this arm, so it was a little scary, I have to say,” he admitted in the statement.
Despite the scare, May reassured fans that he has made significant strides in his recovery. “The good news is that I can play guitar after the events of the last few days,” he said. Fans of the rock star, who is known for his intricate and powerful guitar solos in songs like “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “We Will Rock You,” were surely relieved to hear that his legendary talent remains intact.
May took the opportunity to thank his medical team for the “fantastic care” he received following the stroke. He expressed his gratitude for their support while humorously urging fans not to flood his inbox with sympathy messages. “I hate clutter in my inbox,” he quipped, in an effort to keep things light-hearted.
As part of his recovery, May is currently on strict orders to take it easy. “I’m grounded, not allowed to go out, not allowed to drive, not allowed to get on a plane, and not allowed to raise my heart rate too high,” he shared. While these restrictions may be frustrating, May remained upbeat about his health progress, assuring everyone, “But I’m good.”
May’s health revelation came shortly after the airing of his recent BBC documentary, Brian May: The Badgers, the Farmers and Me. The film, which premiered on August 23, explores his ongoing efforts to halt the controversial badger cull in England. Known for his deep passion for animal rights, May has spent years advocating against the cull, which aims to reduce Bovine Tuberculosis in cattle but remains a point of contention in Britain.
Despite his recent health challenge, May’s spirit remains strong as he continues to champion causes close to his heart. With his fans behind him and his music still at his fingertips, Brian May is sure to keep rocking the world.
