Pop Star Bebe Rexha Claims Airline Worker Threatened Her Due to Albanian Heritage
Pop star Bebe Rexha recently made headlines after alleging that a Lufthansa airline worker threatened her because of her Albanian background. The singer, who was born in the United States to Albanian parents, took to Instagram on Saturday to share her distressing experience. In a series of emotional posts, Rexha recounted an encounter with a security agent whom she had addressed in Albanian. According to Rexha, this led the agent to ban her from her flight.
In her Instagram story, Rexha stated, “Lufthansa, I’ve been threatened because I spoke to the security agent in Albanian while asking where to get my ticket. Now, he’s banning me from the flight.” She expressed her belief that this incident was an act of hate crime directed at her due to her Albanian heritage. Rexha further accused the agent of subjecting her to mental abuse, claiming that no female staff members intervened or offered support during the ordeal.
The singer-songwriter, who has expressed feeling “emotionally drained,” urged Lufthansa to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter. She revealed that while the airline had reached out to her directly, she remains hopeful for a comprehensive review of the incident.
In response to Rexha’s allegations, Lufthansa issued a statement on Sunday. A spokesperson confirmed that the airline had contacted Rexha to understand the situation better and was conducting an internal review. The spokesperson emphasized Lufthansa’s commitment to combating discrimination, stating, “As an international airline, we connect people and countries around the globe. We do not tolerate any discriminatory behavior of any kind.”
Despite the controversy, Rexha was able to board her flight on time. The artist, who gained widespread fame with her 2017 country pop hit “Meant to Be,” is also recognized for other popular tracks such as “Me, Myself & I,” “In the Name of Love,” and the 2022 UK official singles chart-topping hit “I’m Good (Blue).”
