After leading the Kansas City Chiefs to a 7-0 record with a 27-20 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders, Patrick Mahomes received high praise from an opposing coach for his unwavering composure under pressure. This coach shared with Mike Sando of The Athletic that Mahomes’ control over the offense, even in scramble situations, has been a key factor in Kansas City’s winning streak.
“It takes a lot of effort to get everyone in the right spot during a scramble drill,” the coach noted. “Only veterans can pull that off when needed—they may be tired, but they stay focused. Mahomes is like a gladiator in the arena, with the lions charging at him.”
In Sunday’s game, Mahomes completed 27 of 38 passes for 262 yards, throwing two touchdowns and one interception. With this win, the Chiefs extended their streak to 13 consecutive victories dating back to last season—their second 13-game streak since Mahomes took over as starting QB.
The 2024 Chiefs lineup has seen a clear evolution, no longer relying solely on explosive offensive plays. Kansas City has consistently showcased resilience, leading many to believe the team could achieve the NFL’s first modern-era three-peat.
Mahomes and the Chiefs will aim to improve to 8-0 when they face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday Night Football next week.
