‘Pacific Rim’ Expands Universe: First Prequel TV Series Announced

‘Pacific Rim’ Brand Brings Monster Universe to Screen with First Prequel TV Series

According to Variety, the popular “Pacific Rim” franchise has expanded its universe with Legendary announcing its first prequel TV series. Talented filmmakers Eric Heisserer and Carmen Lewis will take on the role of developing the project. The TV project will explore the events that took place before the first film in the franchise, “Pacific Rim” (2013), directed by Guillermo del Toro.

Legendary’s head of television, Jason Clodfelter, expressed confidence in Heisserer and Lewis’ ability to expand the monster and robot universe of “Pacific Rim”. The first film, although released nine years ago, laid the foundation for a fictional world with battles between humans and giant monsters from the ocean.

The movie “Pacific Rim” received praise from critics with a score of 72% on Rotten Tomatoes and attracted the love of the audience, reaching a global revenue of more than 400 million USD.

This prequel TV project has not yet announced detailed content or cast members. This is one of the important projects that Eric Heisserer, a famous Hollywood screenwriter, is working on at the same time as other projects. Heisserer made his mark with the script for the film adaptation “Arrival” (2017) directed by Denis Villeneuve and “Bird Box” (2018), two works that received many compliments and awards.

Up to now, the “Pacific Rim” brand has had 2 movie parts, with the first part released in 2013 and the second part in 2018, however, the second part did not achieve good revenue. The animated TV series “Pacific Rim: The Black” has been produced for 2 seasons and will air on Netflix in 2021 and 2022. This prequel project marks the debut of the first live-action TV series in the franchise. The birth of the first prequel TV series for the “Pacific Rim” franchise not only opens a new chapter in the universe of monsters and robots but also affirms the endless creativity of Legendary Entertainment. Under the hands of two filmmakers Eric Heisserer and Carmen Lewis, this project promises to enrich the context of the world that Guillermo del Toro has worked hard to build. By exploring the events that happened before the first film, this TV series will not only attract longtime fans but also open up new opportunities for audiences who have never experienced “Pacific Rim.” In a constantly changing entertainment industry, developing new stories from familiar brands is not only a continuation but also a way to maintain and renew the interest of viewers. This not only demonstrates the continuous development of the brand but also a testament to the enduring appeal of creative, fantastical stories.
