Nikita Kucherov, a cornerstone of the Tampa Bay Lightning, continues to defy expectations in his 11th season. Despite his quiet demeanor, Kucherov’s on-ice performances speak volumes, as he currently leads the NHL in goals and ranks second in points.
A Testament to Hard Work and Dedication
It’s no surprise to his teammates. “He’s a very special player,” Victor Hedman said. “Doesn’t seem to stop amazing us in here. His work ethic, his dedication to the game and working on his craft every single day. It bears fruit in the game, so it’s a treat to watch.” Kucherov’s teammates and coaches are unanimous in their praise for his exceptional talent, unwavering work ethic, and dedication to the game. His relentless pursuit of excellence has propelled him to new heights, solidifying his status as one of the league’s elite players.
Edmonton’s Connor McDavid is the only player that has more points than Kucherov over the last 2+ seasons. During that time, Kucherov has netted 81 goals, which is the 13th most. Most of his goals have come from the right side, but this season he is seeing more of the ice and finding the net from all over.
Stepping Up as a Leader
With the departure of Steven Stamkos, Kucherov has seamlessly assumed a leadership role within the Lightning team. His guidance and influence have been instrumental in the team’s success, and he continues to inspire his teammates with his unwavering commitment to victory.
“He’s pretty damn impressive,” Jon Cooper said. “Every year, he takes on more of a leadership role, and I think you just keep seeing it. Especially with the leadership change that we had this year. He’s been one of the guys that has stepped up for us. You may not see it in front of the camera all of the time, but behind closed doors he’s been outstanding.” Cooper continued, “I think that’s why his goal totals have gone up because he has been shooting. He hasn’t been waiting for the grade-a spot to shoot from. He can score from anywhere, but for me the more he shoots the better it’s going to be for him and us.”
A Hall of Fame Career
Kucherov’s current performance is poised to surpass his previous achievements, including his career-best 100-point season. His ability to score from all areas of the ice, combined with his relentless drive, makes him a formidable force to be reckoned with. His illustrious career has already cemented his place among the all-time greats. As he continues to break new ground and elevate his game, there’s no doubt that he will leave an enduring legacy in the NHL.
