Following its launch in March, Pink Friday Nails is partnering with Shopify to unveil an immersive pop-up experience at Shopify NY in New York City. From Thursday, October 11, through Sunday, October 13, attendees will have the chance to dive into the creative universe of Pink Friday Nails through a series of nail art demonstrations, interactive sessions, and an exclusive preview of new product releases.
Ahead of the event, Yvett G, Minaj’s longtime nail artist and collaborator on Pink Friday Nails, shared insights with PEOPLE magazine about the brand and her collaboration with the rapper. “Most of the inspiration comes from Nicki herself,” explained Yvett, who serves as the brand’s creative director. She noted that while working with Minaj, the rapper provides a blend of guidance and creative freedom, often sharing mood boards to convey her vision. “She’ll say, ‘This is the look I want; I need you to incorporate this gold element,’” Yvett elaborated. When they launched the brand, Minaj expressed her desire for it to reflect their previous collaborations, stating, “I want my fans, my Barbz, to have a little bit of me.”
Yvett also highlighted the increasing popularity of DIY beauty, especially press-on nails, which surged during the COVID-19 pandemic. To facilitate at-home manicures, Pink Friday Nails places a strong emphasis on nail size inclusivity. “Nicki specifically insisted, ‘I need there to be a lot of sizes,’” Yvett recalled. She explained that Minaj has small nail beds, making it challenging to find conventional press-on nails that fit. “If she were to simply choose standard options, they would be too large for her,” Yvett noted, which led to their commitment to providing a diverse range of sizes.”
Looking ahead, Yvett expressed the brand’s aspirations, stating, “Our primary goal right now is to make it accessible to everyone.” She mentioned that they are exploring retail opportunities and envisioning more events like the upcoming pop-up. “We need people to see our products because our quality truly distinguishes us,” she emphasized. “While the designs are stunning, it’s the quality that truly stands out.”
