Nelly Korda Withdraws from LPGA Tournaments in South Korea and Malaysia
The world’s number one female golfer, Nelly Korda, recently announced her decision to withdraw from two upcoming LPGA Tour events in South Korea and Malaysia. The South Korea tournament is scheduled to begin this week, followed by Malaysia’s event next week—both part of the prestigious LPGA Tour, often compared to the Masters in tennis.
Decision Due to Injury
Explaining her decision, Korda shared, “I regret to say that I won’t be able to compete in the tournaments in South Korea and Malaysia due to an injury. This decision wasn’t easy, and I am truly disappointed not to join my fans and fellow players at these events.”
Successful Season Marred by Setbacks
Earlier this year, Korda achieved a significant milestone, winning six tournaments within the LPGA Tour. However, since May, she has not claimed any additional titles. A setback came in June when Korda suffered a dog bite, which affected her performance in subsequent competitions. During the 2024 Paris Olympics, Korda was unable to defend her title as the reigning champion, which left fans and supporters disappointed.
Future Participation Uncertain
Korda’s withdrawal from the events in South Korea and Malaysia has led to questions about whether she will participate in the Toto Classic in Japan, set to take place immediately after the Mybank tournament in Malaysia. She has not yet provided a clear update on her plans regarding that competition.
2023-2024 LPGA Tour Conclusion
The 2023-2024 LPGA Tour season will officially conclude with final events in Hawaii and Florida (USA), giving female golfers one last opportunity to compete and bring this season’s LPGA Tour to a close.
