Mike Tyson is making a highly anticipated return to the ring after nearly 20 years, set to face Jake Paul on November 15, with his trainer confident that Tyson is in better shape than ever for the showdown.
Mike Tyson Makes Epic Return to the Ring After 20-Year Hiatus, Set to Face Jake Paul
Mike Tyson is back in the ring after almost two decades of retirement, ready to face off with YouTube star-turned-boxer Jake Paul on November 15 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The event will be streamed on Netflix, marking a major comeback for the legendary “Iron Mike.”
Tyson, now 58, last stepped into the ring in 2020 for an exhibition match against Roy Jones Jr. This time, the fight is a sanctioned eight-round pro match with two-minute rounds and 14-ounce gloves. Tyson’s trainer, Rafael Cordeiro, who worked with Tyson during his 2020 bout, is once again in his corner, preparing him for Paul, who is 27 years old.
Trainer Rafael Cordeiro Confident Tyson is in Better Shape Than Ever Ahead of Showdown
According to Cordeiro, Tyson is in better shape now than when he fought Jones. “Mike is much better than he was when he fought Roy,” he says in the pre-fight documentary MVP Uncut. “Four years later, at 58, he’s better than he was at 54. He’s fixed everything he did wrong. His energy is good, and we’re in the perfect place mentally and physically.” Cordeiro showed how Tyson’s powerful punches have even damaged his training equipment. “This is good equipment, and it couldn’t handle Mike’s punches,” he said. “Can you imagine Jake Paul’s face when Mike lands one on him?”.
Cordeiro also praised Tyson’s improvements. “His defense, his speed, his conditioning—everything’s better. He’s been improving every day.” As for Paul, Cordeiro is confident Tyson will be ready to take him down. “Mike’s going to hunt this kid like crazy. He just needs one touch. If Mike touches him, it’s over. We’ll see on November 15.”
Tyson’s return is a big deal, and if his training and passion are any indication, it could be a knockout night.
