Michelle Obama Criticizes Donald Trump and Endorses Kamala Harris at Democratic National Convention
At the Democratic National Convention on August 20, former First Lady Michelle Obama sharply criticized Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. She condemned his character and the racist remarks directed at her and her husband, former President Barack Obama.
Michelle Obama remarked, “His narrow and limited view of the world makes him feel threatened by the existence of two successful, educated, and hardworking Black individuals.”
She also mocked Trump for referring to certain jobs as “Black jobs” during his campaign, claiming that immigrants are taking these jobs away from Black Americans. “Who will tell him that the job he’s looking for might actually be one of those ‘Black jobs’?” she questioned, eliciting enthusiastic applause from the audience.
In her speech, Mrs. Obama endorsed Democratic vice-presidential nominee Kamala Harris, who formally accepted the party’s nomination for the presidency. If elected, Harris would become the first Black and South Asian President of the United States.
Mrs. Obama contrasted Harris with Trump, noting that most Americans did not grow up with the privilege of wealth that Trump did, whose father was a real estate investor. “We will never benefit from multi-generational financial support,” she said. “If we fail a business or are overwhelmed by a crisis, we don’t get a second, third, or fourth chance. If things don’t go our way, we don’t have the luxury of complaining or deceiving others to get ahead.”
Michelle Obama’s speech highlighted the stark differences between the candidates and underscored her support for a more inclusive and equitable vision for the country.
