Jordan Spieth Announces He Will Miss Remainder of Season for Wrist Surgery
In a significant development for the golf world, Jordan Spieth has revealed that he will be sidelined for the rest of the season due to a wrist injury that has been troubling him for over a year. The former world No. 1 finished tied for 68th place at the FedEx St. Jude Championship held in Memphis, Tennessee, which also marked his exit from the FedExCup Playoffs.
This decision comes after Spieth’s performance has been notably impacted by the injury. Despite his illustrious career, including three major championships and a PGA Tour title in April 2022, the past 16 months have been challenging. Spieth has struggled to maintain his form, managing only three top-10 finishes this year and none in the last four months. Additionally, he has missed the cut on eight occasions throughout the season.
The wrist injury, first reported ahead of last year’s PGA Championship, has been a persistent issue for Spieth. The injury involves a torn wrist sheath, which has not healed despite his efforts. Spieth has now decided to undergo surgery, with an estimated recovery period of three months.
“I need to have the surgery as soon as possible, and then I’ll follow the prescribed recovery process,” Spieth stated, as reported by the PGA Tour. “I don’t have a reason to rush back, so I’ll take it as slow as necessary.”
Spieth’s decision reflects his commitment to full recovery rather than pushing through the pain. “I tried not to use the injury as an excuse because it didn’t hurt when I was swinging,” Spieth admitted. “However, the consistent lack of improvement and the results being the same every week suggest that surgery might bring some clarity.”
While Spieth expresses some apprehension about the surgery and the uncertainty it brings, he remains hopeful. “There’s a bit of fear, but also an opportunity to come back stronger. I need to learn patience, which isn’t my strong suit, but I believe this will ultimately benefit me.”
As Spieth takes this necessary break, golf fans will be eager to see how his return unfolds and whether he can reclaim his top form after this period of recovery.
