Sinner’s 2024 season began with a decisive victory at the Australian Open in January, followed by another Grand Slam title at the US Open in September. Clinching the World No. 1 spot in the ATP rankings, Sinner wrapped up the year with a stellar 91.5% win rate, claiming seven titles and boasting a 65-6 win-loss record. Speaking on Radio Rai Gr Parlamento, President Binaghi praised Sinner’s potential to reach 30 Grand Slam titles, remarking, “He won two Grand Slams in one year and is 15 years younger than Djokovic. With his current form, reaching 30 titles is a real possibility.”
The Deciding Factor: Health
Despite Binaghi’s optimism, Sinner’s health remains essential. “Keeping him in top physical shape is crucial. If Sinner maintains his form and health, he’ll become an incredible phenomenon,” Binaghi added, emphasizing the role of fitness in achieving such a monumental goal.
Doping Allegations as a Potential Hurdle
Off-court, Sinner faces a significant challenge. In August, the ITIA reported a positive test for the banned steroid clostebol, found in a spray used to treat an injury. While an independent court cleared him of wrongdoing, WADA has appealed the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), recommending a two-year suspension. Binaghi expressed confidence that Sinner will clear his name, with a final decision expected by early 2025.
