Why Is Lil Durk in Jail and What Charges Is He Facing? Lil Durk, the 33-year-old rapper known for hits like All My Life, is currently entangled in serious legal troubles. He was arrested in October 2024 in Broward County, Florida, and is being held without bail on charges of conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire.
Lil Durk’s Arrest and Current Status
The Chicago rapper, whose real name is Durk Devontay Banks, is accused of orchestrating a plot that led to the 2022 shooting death of Saviay’a Robinson, cousin of rival rapper Quando Rondo.
Authorities claim Durk masterminded the attempted assassination of Quando Rondo, which resulted in Robinson’s death. He is currently detained without bail and facing a potential life sentence if convicted.
Prosecutors have labeled Lil Durk as the leader of the hip-hop collective Only The Family (OTF), describing the group as operating like a “de facto association of individuals involved in violence, including murder and assault, under Banks’ direction.”
One notable tragedy in OTF’s history is the 2020 murder of member King Von. In response, Durk and five other OTF members were allegedly involved in retaliatory actions against Quando Rondo’s family, leading to the charges they face now.
Charges Against Lil Durk
Durk is charged with using federal facilities to commit murder-for-hire, specifically at a public gas station where Robinson was killed.
According to U.S. Attorney Martin Estrada, “Mr. Banks is accused of orchestrating a brutal murder that endangered not only the intended target but also countless others at a busy intersection.”
Lil Durk has pleaded not guilty to the charges. His extradition from Miami to Los Angeles marked the beginning of what promises to be a high-profile legal battle.
A detention hearing is scheduled for December 12, where a judge will decide whether he will remain in custody or be released on bail—a move prosecutors are opposing.
If convicted, Lil Durk faces a life sentence, the maximum penalty under federal law for his charges.
Estrada further stated:
“Violent gun crimes like this devastate our communities. We will not tolerate those who engage in such ruthless acts of violence.”
Durk’s legal team is preparing for a lengthy trial, as the rapper maintains his innocence. Alongside him, five other OTF members are facing charges of murder-for-hire and conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire.
