Huang Zitao Proposes to Girlfriend Amid a Sea of Flowers
Huang Zitao, a prominent figure in Chinese showbiz, crafted a fairytale-like castle out of fresh roses to propose to Xu Yiyang.
On August 26, the show “Follow Me” on Youku released a video of Zitao confessing his love to Xu Yiyang: “Since the day you stepped into my life and chose to stay by my side, I found the answer in my heart. I wish for you to be the one who accompanies me for the rest of my life. Every minute, every hour, every night, every day of this lifetime, the one I hope to have is you. I dare to marry you, do you dare to accept my proposal?” Overwhelmed with emotion, Xu Yiyang accepted the proposal, moved to tears. According to Ifeng, Zitao selected light pink roses—her favorite—to build the fairytale castle, marking a significant milestone in their relationship.
Huang Zitao and Xu Yiyang had been the subject of dating rumors for years before going public with their relationship in July. They met while Yiyang was a trainee at SM Entertainment in South Korea, where Zitao was a member of the popular boy band EXO. In 2018, Xu Yiyang returned to China to pursue her career, participating in various idol selection shows and eventually becoming a singer under Zitao’s entertainment company. Zitao left EXO in 2015 and has since focused on his career in China, working in music, film, and fashion. In addition to singing, he writes and produces his own music and has produced several reality shows, including “Produce 101.” Zitao has also starred in films such as “You Are My Sunshine,” “Railroad Tigers,” “The Game Changer,” and the television adaptation of “A Chinese Odyssey.”
Dubbed the “Prince of Showbiz” by Chinese media, Zitao inherited a substantial fortune from his father, businessman Huang Zhongdong. According to Renwu, Huang Zhongdong built a company valued at over 20 billion yuan and held more than 20% of its shares. Before his passing in 2020 due to illness, he bequeathed the majority of his assets to his son. Zaobao reports that Huang Zitao owns a private jet, with annual maintenance costs amounting to at least 17 million yuan (2.3 million USD). He is also known for his luxurious watch collection and a passion for supercars, making him one of China’s most renowned collectors.
