Before Gwen Stefani met her husband Blake Shelton on The Voice, she had no idea who he was. In an interview with The Guardian published on November 14, 2024, Stefani opened up about her relationship with Shelton and their musical journey together. The 55-year-old pop star was asked if she’d ever consider collaborating with Shelton on a country album. While Stefani has ventured into country music a few times, she admitted that she had never listened to the genre before meeting Shelton.
Stefani Admits She Never Listened to Country Music
“I never listened to country music, so while Blake Shelton was super successful, I never even knew he existed before I met him,” Stefani shared. Their first meeting took place in 2014 while they were both coaching on The Voice, and since then, their bond has grown stronger, with Stefani expressing how much she enjoys singing alongside Shelton.
“He’s very humble and doesn’t realize how good he is,” Stefani continued, praising her husband’s musical talent. “There’s something so attractive about that.” Shelton, 48, is a country music legend, known for hits like “God’s Country,” and their partnership both on and off the stage has been a focal point of their relationship. The couple married in 2021, and their connection continues to flourish in both their personal lives and careers.
Bouquet Album Reflects a New Chapter for Stefani
Stefani’s new album Bouquet, released on November 15, explores her emotional journey, including her 2016 divorce from Gavin Rossdale, and the joy she has found with Shelton. “The last four years of my life, I got engaged, then I got married and started my life over,” Stefani told PEOPLE. She reflected on how she once had dreams of having a family and a love like her parents, only to see those dreams shattered. But meeting Shelton, she says, was a miracle that helped her rebuild a new dream.
A Duet with Shelton and Their Ongoing Collaboration
The album features several songs about new beginnings and love, including a duet with Shelton called “Purple Irises.” The couple also performed together at the 2024 Academy of Country Music Awards, where their chemistry was undeniable. Although Stefani is still new to the country scene, her collaboration with Shelton continues to gain attention. In 2022, the two made their debut at the Grand Ole Opry, performing their duets “Nobody but You” and “Happy Anywhere.”
Stefani admitted to being nervous about the performance, saying, “I’m so nervous, I’m so excited, this is one of those things that you don’t dream about if you’re me — and then all of a sudden I’m here with Blake Shelton. It’s a miracle, I’m so grateful, thank you so much.”
Through their shared passion for music and undeniable connection, Stefani and Shelton continue to captivate fans with their personal and professional collaboration.
