France Urges Citizens to Leave Iran Amid Rising Tensions
The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a critical warning advising French citizens to leave Iran immediately and avoid traveling to the country under any circumstances. This advisory, posted on August 2, cites “a high risk of escalating military conflict in the region.”
In the advisory, French authorities urge those currently in Iran to “depart as soon as possible,” exercise “heightened vigilance,” and steer clear of any protests. They also recommend regularly checking the embassy’s website for updates on the situation.
Tehran Tensions Surge After Assassination
The warning comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East following the assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran on July 31. Iran has accused Israel and the United States of being behind the attack. While Tel Aviv has not confirmed or denied involvement, Washington firmly denies any connection.
In response, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has called for “direct attacks on Israel” to avenge Haniyeh’s death. Western media reports, citing anonymous U.S. officials, suggest that Iran may be planning strikes against Israel in the coming days.
Increased Security Measures in France
In light of these developments, Paris has also heightened security measures at Jewish sites across France. Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin acknowledged the “real risk of retaliatory acts.” France, home to the world’s third-largest Jewish community, following Israel and the U.S., and the largest Muslim population in Europe, is on high alert.
International Airlines Respond to Regional Instability
As concerns over regional instability grow, Dutch airline KLM has announced the cancellation of flights to Tel Aviv until at least October, citing “unsettled security conditions in the area.” Previously, KLM had suspended flights to the Israeli capital until August 31.
Other airlines, including United, Delta, Lufthansa, and ITA Airways, have also suspended or canceled flights to and from the Middle East due to security concerns.
Stay informed and exercise caution if you are traveling or planning to travel to affected regions.
