Eminem has once again aimed at Diddy, stirring controversy over the long-standing rumors surrounding the deaths of rap legends The Notorious B.I.G. and 2Pac. The Detroit rapper dropped the Expanded Mourner’s Edition of his album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce), on September 13, which features a remix of his track “Fuel”, this time including verses from Westside Boogie and Grip, artists signed to Eminem’s Shady Records.
Eminem’s Blistering Verse
In his fiery verse on the “Fuel” remix, Eminem doesn’t hold back, throwing direct shots at Diddy. He raps:
“The Notorious B.I.G.’s death was the domino effects of 2Pac’s murder / Like facial tissue, whose card should I clean next? Puff’s? / ‘Til he’s in police handcuffs, guilty, will he step up? / Like gee, never turned himself in, who knows all the murders there’s been / Or me next up, prepare for me to not choose none of my words carefully.”
These bold lines reference long-standing rumors and theories suggesting that Diddy played a role in 2Pac’s death in September 1996. The allegations were first brought to light during a police interview with Duane “Keefe D” Davis, a former Compton Crip who is now facing charges for conspiring to murder 2Pac. Keefe claimed that Puffy (Diddy) had allegedly offered him $1 million to kill both 2Pac and Suge Knight during the infamous Bad Boy-Death Row beef of the mid-1990s.
Keefe D’s Allegations and Diddy’s Response
In the police interview, Keefe D was reportedly asked if Diddy had any involvement in the incident, to which he replied, “Yeah, I think he did.” In a separate YouTube interview, Keefe claimed Diddy reached out to him following the murder, allegedly asking, “Is that us?” He also asserted that after 2Pac’s killing, Diddy paid half of the agreed sum to an associate named Eric “Von Zip” Martin, who allegedly kept the money for himself.
Diddy has consistently denied these accusations, referring to Keefe D’s story as “pure fiction and completely ridiculous” during an interview with L.A. Weekly in 2011. Despite the persistent rumors, Diddy has never been formally charged in connection with 2Pac’s murder.
Eminem’s Ongoing Digs at Diddy
This isn’t the first time Eminem has taken jabs at Diddy. On the original version of “Fuel” featuring JID, Em made similar references to the deaths of Biggie and 2Pac, as well as Diddy’s ongoing legal troubles, particularly regarding the sexual assault lawsuits the Bad Boy boss has faced. In his verse, Slim Shady rapped: “I’m like a R-A-P-E-R / Got so many S-As, S-As / Wait, he didn’t just spell the word ‘rapper’ and leave out a P, did he? / R.I.P., rest in peace Biggie / And ‘Pac, both of y’all should be living / But I ain’t tryna beef with him / ‘Cause he might put a hit on me like, ‘Keefe D, get him.’”
Eminem also took further digs at Diddy in the track “Antichrist”, solidifying his stance in this ongoing feud.
