Drake has officially surpassed Madonna’s long-standing record by securing 40 songs in the Billboard Hot 100 top 10, eclipsing Madonna’s previous record of 38 hits set in 2012.
The Canadian rapper achieved this milestone after his latest tracks, “Popstar” (number three) and “Greece” (number eight), both featuring DJ Khaled, entered the Billboard Hot 100 top 10 last week, according to The Guardian. This brings his total to an impressive 40 top 10 songs. Drake first broke into the top 10 in 2009 with “Best I Ever Had,” which reached number two. Among his 40 hits, he has collaborated 15 times with other prominent artists, including Rihanna, Travis Scott, and Future.
Madonna has held the record for top 10 hits since 2002. She launched her career with her first top 10 hit, “Lucky Star,” in 1983, which peaked at number four. Her most recent entry in the top 10 was “Give Me All Your Luvin‘” in 2012, featuring Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. Although Madonna’s recent albums have achieved commercial success, none of her latest singles have reached the top 10. Before Madonna, The Beatles held the record with 34 top 10 hits.
In addition to breaking the top 10 record, Drake also made headlines earlier this year by becoming the artist with the most songs on the Billboard Hot 100, achieving 208 songs in March. Following the release of his compilation album, Dark Lane Demo Tapes, in May, which featured 14 tracks that all charted, Drake has now expanded his record to 224 songs on the Billboard Hot 100.
The Billboard Hot 100 ranks the most popular songs in the United States based on comprehensive data from Nielsen Music and MRC Data. The rankings consider a combination of sales (both physical and digital), radio airplay, and streaming activity.
With this latest achievement, Drake solidifies his status as one of the most successful artists in music history, continuing to push the boundaries of what is possible in the music industry. As he evolves his sound and collaborations, fans eagerly await what he will accomplish next.
