Donald Trump Launches Legal Battle With US Justice Department: Lawsuit Seeks $100 Million Over Mar-a-Lago Raid
Former US President Donald Trump has just stirred up public opinion by suing the US Department of Justice, demanding $100 million in compensation. The cause of this lawsuit stems from the controversial raid on his home in 2022 to collect classified documents. This is not just a normal legal battle but also a new chapter in the tense confrontation between Trump and government agencies. Let’s take a closer look at this bold move and the possible consequences in the future.
Mr. Trump speaks at Mar-a-Lago on August 8.
Former President Donald Trump’s lawsuit against the US Department of Justice was filed in court last week and made public on August 12, AFP reported. In the lawsuit, Mr. Trump accused the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) of storming his Mar-a-Lago resort to recover classified documents as an act of “political repression”.
The plaintiff criticized Attorney General Merrick Garland and FBI Director Christopher Wray, saying they intentionally “harmed” Mr. Trump. It is known that on August 8, 2022, FBI agents raided Mar-a-Lago with a search warrant from a federal judge, recovering many classified documents from the Pentagon and the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).

These documents were stored without security at Mr. Trump’s home.
Mr. Trump is currently facing 31 charges related to illegally retaining defense information. Last month, a judge dismissed the case, saying the appointment of special counsel Jack Smith was unlawful. In the new lawsuit, Trump seeks $100 million in damages and reimbursement of at least $15 million in legal fees. He also argues that Attorney General Garland and Director Wray should not have approved the search and subsequent prosecution.
In short, the lawsuit not only reflects the current tensions between Trump and government agencies, but also marks an important stage in the legal confrontation that will follow. The Justice Department has 180 days to respond to the allegations. If a settlement cannot be reached, the case will go to trial, continuing to stir public opinion and influence political and legal developments in the coming period.
