Dodgers Complete Sweep of Mariners with 8-4 Victory as Shohei Ohtani Approaches Historic Milestone
The Los Angeles Dodgers finished their series against the Seattle Mariners with a decisive 8-4 win on Wednesday night, completing a three-game sweep. The highlight of the game was Max Muncy’s three-run double, which was part of a five-run fifth inning that secured the victory for the Dodgers.
Shohei Ohtani stole his 39th base of the season in the game, inching closer to a historic achievement. He is now just one stolen base and one home run away from becoming the fastest player in Major League Baseball history to reach the coveted 40-40 milestone. If he achieves this, Ohtani would also be the first player in Dodgers history to do so.
The Dodgers, leading the NL West, dominated the Mariners throughout the series, outscoring them 17-7. The win marks the Dodgers’ fourth consecutive victory and extends their lead over the Arizona Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres to four games.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts praised the team’s performance, saying, “What we did with those starters this series was a clinic. You could argue that starting staff over there is top-two baseball. Grinding those guys, getting to the pen was one of our more impressive three-game series as far as beating the starter.”
Dodgers starter Jack Flaherty (10-5) delivered a solid performance, allowing two runs—one earned—and five hits over 5 2/3 innings. He struck out five and walked one.
On the other hand, the Mariners, who have been struggling, have now lost three straight games and eight of their last nine. They concluded a rough road trip with a 1-8 record, having faced Detroit, Pittsburgh, and Los Angeles.
