Tyler Perry’s latest film, “Divorce in the Black,” has not only captivated viewers but also set a new record for driving U.S. Prime Video subscriptions. According to Amazon, the film has attracted more new sign-ups to Prime Video than any other movie produced by Amazon MGM Studios to date. This milestone solidifies Perry’s impact on the platform and underscores his ability to draw in viewers.
Upon its release on July 11, “Divorce in the Black” quickly made its mark, amassing more than 498 million minutes of viewership within its first four days, according to Nielsen. This impressive figure placed the film at number three on Nielsen’s Top 10 streaming chart for the viewing window of July 8-14, behind only Netflix’s “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F” and Paramount+’s “If.” With its nearly 2.5-hour runtime, the film’s 498 million minutes translate to an estimated 3.5 million views during that period.
Even weeks after its debut, “Divorce in the Black” continues to perform strongly. According to Luminate’s movies chart, the film logged 93.2 million minutes watched between July 26 and August 1, marking its third week on Prime Video. This sustained performance highlights the film’s ongoing appeal to audiences.
