Did Kim Kardashian Intentionally Imitate Princess Diana?

Reality star Kim Kardashian has faced significant backlash after wearing the iconic cross necklace of Princess Diana at a recent event. At the LACMA Art + Film Gala held in Los Angeles on November 2, Kim drew attention with the purple amethyst necklace. This necklace was famously borrowed by Princess Diana from the Garrard brand for a charity gala in 1987, as well as for many other important occasions. Reportedly, Kim Kardashian paid nearly $200,000 to acquire this historic piece at a Sotheby’s auction in January 2023.

After images of Kim surfaced on news outlets, many commented that the mother of four appeared “shallow” when pairing the necklace with a deeply plunging dress. On social media, one user remarked, “If she wants to wear a necklace with such a sacred religious symbol, at least it should be styled to reflect Princess Diana’s elegance and show respect.”

Traditionally, amethyst symbolizes the privilege of the British royal family, and Princess Diana’s bold choice to wear the large pendant and unusually long chain was noted. A representative from the jewelry brand Steven Stone commented, “Very few people can pull off such an unusual piece, except for Princess Diana.”

Some individuals mocked Kardashian for choosing this accessory, suggesting she craved a connection to the royal family. Another user wrote, “Maybe she wants to be remembered alongside timeless legends like Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, and Princess Diana, so she decided to spend money to buy a touch of class.” As of now, Kim Kardashian has not commented on the incident.

This is not the first time Kim Kardashian has donned clothing associated with famous women. At the Met Gala 2022, she famously borrowed the form-fitting dress worn by Marilyn Monroe while singing to President John F. Kennedy in 1962. After the event, the reality star faced accusations of damaging the gown, as she reportedly lost several rhinestones while others hung loosely on thin threads.

Kim Kardashian, born in 1980 in the U.S., gained fame through the reality show Keeping Up With The Kardashians and is currently one of the most famous billionaires in America. Over the years, she has built a massive following on social media and has appeared in several films such as Disaster Movie (2008), Deep in the Valley (2009), and Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor (2013). Currently, her estimated net worth is $1.7 billion.
