DeVon Franklin and Tyler Perry Studios Partner with Netflix to Develop Faith-Based Films
Tyler Perry Studios has announced a new collaboration with producer DeVon Franklin to develop faith-based films for Netflix. Under a multi-year, multi-picture first-look deal, Perry and Franklin will co-produce several projects, continuing to expand Perry’s creative partnership with the streaming giant. This collaboration marks a significant step in bringing inspirational, faith-driven content to a global audience.
The first project in this exciting partnership is titled “R&B,” a modern-day retelling of the Biblical love story of Ruth and Boaz. Set in Tennessee, “R&B” follows a young woman who escapes the pressures of the Atlanta music scene to care for an elderly widow. In the process, she discovers not only the love of her life but also the mother figure she never had. The film is written by Mike Elliott and Cory Tynan, and promises to resonate with audiences through its uplifting themes of love, faith, and family.
Tyler Perry expressed his enthusiasm for the new partnership, stating, “I’m so excited to be working with DeVon on this and future projects. In this polarizing world, where things seem to grow colder every day, we both share the goal of wanting to spread some good—and there’s no better place than Netflix to do that.”
DeVon Franklin, who has a long-standing friendship with Perry, echoed the sentiment, adding, “Tyler and I have been great friends for over 15 years, so when he called me to team up on films that uplift the human spirit, I jumped at the chance. We couldn’t ask for a better partner than Netflix to help us inspire the world.”
This new deal follows Perry’s existing multi-year agreement with Netflix, which includes several high-profile projects. Perry is also working on the WWII feature “Six Triple Eight” and the drama series “Beauty in Black,” which continue to showcase his range as a filmmaker. His most recent Netflix film, “Mea Culpa,” debuted at #1 on the platform’s Top 10 English Films list, further cementing his status as one of the most influential creators in the industry.
Niija Kuykendall, VP of Netflix Film, commented, “We are thrilled to expand our relationship with Tyler Perry Studios. Tyler and DeVon have created some of the most inspiring movies in the faith-based space, making them the perfect partners to bring more of these powerful stories to our members.”
Stay tuned for updates on the release of “R&B” and other upcoming projects from Tyler Perry Studios, DeVon Franklin, and Netflix.
