Francis Ngannou, despite recent setbacks in boxing, remains a major figure in combat sports, with a potential future fight against Deontay Wilder sparking excitement as both fighters plan their returns.
Francis Ngannou’s Uncertain Future After MMA Return and Boxing Setbacks
After a successful return to MMA last month, Francis Ngannou’s future remains uncertain. Despite the heavy pressure leading up to his highly anticipated PFL debut against Renan Ferreira, Ngannou dominated the fight, finishing Ferreira in the first round. Although he’s coming off a loss to Anthony Joshua in his second boxing match, the former UFC heavyweight champion has proven he’s still a force to be reckoned with in combat sports.
Despite his 0-2 record in boxing, Ngannou remains a big draw. A potential showdown with Deontay Wilder would surely generate attention, even though both fighters are coming off knockout losses in the ring. Wilder, who suffered a fifth-round stoppage by Zhilei Zhang in June, recently addressed his future in the sport.
Deontay Wilder Announces Boxing Return and Shows Support for Francis Ngannou
In an interview with TMZ, Wilder expressed his intention to return to boxing after some time away. “The best is yet to come, I always say that. We’re still going, we’re still here, you know what I mean? We’re just getting things together,” Wilder said. “I’ve had a lot of outside distractions that I had to get rid of.”
Wilder also took a moment to offer support to Ngannou, who’s been through a difficult year, including the heartbreaking loss of his son, Kobe. “Even since I’ve been off, there have been a lot of offers coming in, a lot of things, different countries and stuff like that. And even with Francis, what’s up brother? I hope everything’s going good for you, man, and I’m sorry for your loss. I can only imagine what it’s like to lose a child, man. I never hope to even feel that feeling. But I hope life is going beautifully for you, bro.”
Wilder’s openness to a fight with Ngannou suggests that the two heavyweights could meet in the ring in the future, adding another exciting chapter to the already thrilling world of combat sports.
