Deadpool & Wolverine” Smashes Box Office Records, Surpassing $1 Billion
In just three weeks, the blockbuster “Deadpool & Wolverine,” starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, has raked in over $1 billion globally.
According to Variety on August 11, the film earned $494.3 million in North America and $535.1 million internationally. It is the second film this year to cross the billion-dollar mark, following “Inside Out 2,” which grossed $1.558 billion. Industry experts predict that at its current growth rate, “Deadpool & Wolverine” will soon surpass “Joker” (2019) to become the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time. This milestone is seen as a much-needed win for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) after recent disappointments like “Eternals,” “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” and “The Marvels.” Variety also highlights that the success of “Deadpool 3” reaffirms the enduring appeal of superhero films, especially those that blend action, humor, and genre-defying elements.
ScreenRant attributes the film’s success to the dynamic pairing of Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, who have become synonymous with their respective characters. The star-studded cast, featuring guest appearances by Jennifer Garner, Channing Tatum, Chris Evans, and Wesley Snipes, also contributed to its widespread appeal.
Despite its global success, “Deadpool & Wolverine” did not top the box office in Vietnam. According to Box Office Vietnam, the film grossed over 7.5 billion VND from August 9-11, placing it behind “Conan: The 1 Million Dollar Star,” which earned 14.6 billion . To date, “Deadpool & Wolverine” has grossed 83.5 billion in Vietnam, while the 27th “Conan” film has amassed 99.7 billion .
Directed by Shawn Levy, the film is set after the events of “Deadpool 2.” It follows Wade Wilson/Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) as he attempts to live a normal life with his loved ones. However, the Time Variance Authority (TVA) soon appears, abducting Deadpool and thrusting him into the MCU. Unable to battle the evil forces alone, Deadpool seeks the help of Wolverine (Hugh Jackman). The film has received rave reviews from numerous film critics, being hailed as a “game-changer for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”
