Shocking Cases Of Cats Killed With Darts In China
In recent days, the animal-loving community in China has been shocked by the discovery of stray cats being killed with darts. These heartbreaking incidents have shocked and raised concerns about animal cruelty in the area.
The Heartbreaking Truth About Cats Being Attacked
On August 13, Zhejiang TV reported on a heartbreaking incident at Qinqin Home, a residential area in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. Volunteers discovered a stray cat with 10 steel darts stuck in its head, chest and back. Despite being promptly rescued at a veterinary clinic, the cat could not survive after 90 minutes of treatment.
The cat, which had lived in the community for the past three years and was known for its gentle personality, had been neutered and vaccinated by volunteers. This cruel act left residents and volunteers shocked and heartbroken.
Other Attacks and Community Responses
Just one day later, on August 14, two more stray cats were found with similar injuries. A two-month-old kitten, weighing less than a kilogram, was shot in the head and chest with a dart. The other kitten had a dart stuck in its tail. Veterinarians performed emergency surgery on the kitten and it is currently in intensive care. The other cat underwent surgery and is currently recovering in a stable condition.
In addition, a decomposing stray cat carcass with a dart lodged in its body was also found in the area. This situation raises suspicions about the perpetrator’s actions and the need for more effective animal protection measures.
Reactions From the Community and Activists
A local resident expressed her outrage to the media, saying that shooting darts at stray cats is unforgivable. She called on the authorities to investigate and severely punish the perpetrator.
A popular Douyin blogger with the nickname pinjunsanzhimao, who specializes in rescuing wild animals, also spoke out about the incident. She expressed concern that if this behavior is not stopped, more animals and even humans may become victims. She called for judicial intervention to punish the perpetrator and protect the safety of the community.
Legal Status and Conclusion
Currently, the suspect, believed to be in his early 20s, has been “controlled by the police”, but it is not yet clear how he will be punished. According to China’s Wildlife Protection Law, stray cats are not protected under the Anti-Cruelty to Animals Law, which has led to much controversy and calls for changes to the law.
This incident has further raised concerns about animal abuse in China. In early August, a similar incident in Fujian Province caused a stir when a man was investigated for throwing an unidentified liquid at a stray cat, causing severe burns and injuries to the animal.
These cruel attacks are not only painful for innocent cats, but also a wake-up call for the need to protect animals and strengthen laws to prevent abuse. Raising public awareness and action is essential to protect vulnerable creatures from cruelty and create a more compassionate society.
