The UFC never passes up the opportunity to give up-and-coming talent a stage. In keeping with this custom, Carlos Prates, a 30-year-old phenomenon, was given a chance by the promotion last year. The UFC was not let down by Prates, who lived up to their expectations. Although the UFC and other websites have already featured Carlos Prates’ career, fans may not have easy access to information regarding his nationality and ethnicity.
A Brazilian Phenom
Beginning with a knockout victory over Mitch Ramirez, Prates has continuously delighted fans since making his Contender series debut. With consecutive knockout wins against Trevin Giles and Charles Radtke, his most recent opponent in June 2024, he extended his winning run.
Born and raised in Brazil, Prates honed his skills at the renowned Vale Top Team gym. His training in Muay Thai has provided him with a unique and devastating fighting style. Prates’ impressive record, including three consecutive knockout victories, has solidified his position as a promising contender in the UFC. “The Nightmare” still goes to his gym every time he travels to São Paulo. Four years after being introduced to Muay Thai, Prates made his professional MMA debut. However, he moved to Thailand, the birthplace of Muay Thai, following four defeats in the sport.
A Muay Thai Journey
Prates’ journey to the UFC was shaped by his experiences in Muay Thai. He spent six years living and training in Thailand, where he participated in numerous fights and gained valuable experience. Despite the challenges of competing in a foreign country, Prates’ dedication and perseverance helped him develop his skills and refine his fighting style.
Carlos Prates talked about his Muay Thai combat experience in an interview. The combatant disclosed its distinctions from other nations. He clarified that since there are no sponsors in Thailand, fighters must compete frequently to raise money for essentials. Prates stated that throughout his stay in Thailand, he engaged in 103 contests overall. He shared, “There was a year I did 25 fights in Asia, four a month in three different countries. It was cool, visiting new places and new people, new cultures.”While Carlos Prates has made significant strides in his career, he recalled some negative habits that he adopted over the years. One such habit is cigarette addiction which he developed at an early age when he began learning Muay Thai in Brazil.
Prate’s unhealthy habits in his teenage
One such struggle has been his addiction to cigarettes, which began during his teenage years. Many competitors in the MMA community, like Conor Mcgregor, who is well-known for his drinking habits, have a history of addiction and harmful habits. Likewise, Prates just opened up about his smoking habits on the “Show Me the Money” program. He astonishingly disclosed how, not long after reaching adolescence, he developed a cigarette addiction. He clarified that the only person in his family was his mother, and that he had the chance to smoke with his pals while exploring the streets of Brazil after she departed for work. With time, this tendency becomes even more prevalent.
When Prates thought back on the COVID-19 days, he admitted that his smoking habit deepened. He has been working to control his addiction, though, after quickly realizing the consequences of his behavior. Despite this challenge, Prates has managed to kick his addiction and keep up his excellent work. Prates, who is presently riding a three-fight winning streak, will get another chance to extend it on August 17, his birthday, at UFC 305 in Australia. He won’t pass up the opportunity to give himself a fourth straight victory. Keep checking back for further information.
