Angelina Jolie’s Daughter Zahara Shows Off Dance Moves at School
Zahara, the 19-year-old daughter of Hollywood star Angelina Jolie, captured attention with a modern dance performance at her college’s back-to-school festival.
A video of Zahara dancing with the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority (AKA) at Spelman College was shared on TikTok by a fellow student, garnering nearly 500,000 views in just three days. In the video, Zahara is seen second in line, wearing a tank top and denim shorts paired with sneakers. According to Hello Magazine, Zahara’s performance was part of the Welcome Back Jam, held last week. Following the video’s release, many commenters expressed joy at seeing Zahara enjoying college life and being herself. “Zahara is having the time of her life right now,” one person remarked.
Zahara began her freshman year at Spelman College in August 2022 and joined AKA, the first African-American sorority in U.S. history, founded in 1908. When she started college, Angelina Jolie expressed her excitement about being the mother of a Spelman student and admitted that she couldn’t hold back tears on Zahara’s first day. Brad Pitt also spoke proudly of Zahara, praising her intelligence in an interview with Vanity Fair in August 2022. “She’s going to excel in college. This is a beautiful time for her to find her own path and pursue her passions. Time flies so fast. The kids grow up so quickly. It brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it,” the actor added.
In November 2023, Zahara introduced herself as Zahara Marley Jolie at an AKA event, opting to drop the surname Jolie-Pitt. She is the first of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s children to publicly change her surname since their divorce.
Angelina Jolie adopted Zahara in 2005 when she was just six months old during a humanitarian mission in Ethiopia, where Jolie was serving as a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador. Zahara, who was orphaned after her parents—both HIV positive—abandoned her, often returns to Africa with her mother to stay connected to her roots. Zahara has a passion for jewelry design and has even launched her own line. Jolie has also encouraged her daughter to engage in humanitarian and charitable activities.
Spelman College, originally established in 1881 as the Atlanta Baptist Female Seminary, was renamed in 1924. It is one of the most prestigious institutions in the United States, particularly favored by African-American women, with a graduation rate of 76%. Notable alumnae include Pulitzer Prize-winning author Alice Walker and actress Keshia Knight Pulliam. US News ranks Spelman as the top institution in the U.S. for African-American history studies.
