Adele Pauses Concert to Watch Olympic 100m Final in Munich
Singer Adele, 36, took a break from her concert in Munich to watch the women’s 100m final at the Paris Olympics on a large screen
According to People, the British superstar paused her performance during the Adele in Munich concert on August 3 to join the audience in watching the Olympic event. The cameras shifted focus from Adele to the screen showcasing the race.
After the final, Adele congratulated Julie Alfred of Saint Lucia for winning the gold medal with a time of 10.72 seconds. On August 2, Adele also praised American gymnast Simone Biles for her impressive gold medal win.
Adele’s Munich tour, running from August 2 to August 31, marks her first European concerts since 2016. The Adele Arena, a temporary venue constructed for the tour, spans approximately 4,000 square meters and accommodates 75,000 spectators. According to The Guardian, over 700 workers were involved in building the venue, which features a massive 220-meter-long and 30-meter-high screen worth €40 million (over $1 billion).
In addition to the outdoor arena, the event includes “Adele World,” a themed area replicating locations significant to Adele’s career, such as the Good Ship pub where she performed early in her career. Ticket sales were brisk, with 95% of tickets sold two weeks before the concert’s opening. Clemens Baumgärtner, a leading economist in Munich, estimates that Adele’s concerts will bring €566 million to the city.
On Instagram earlier this year, Adele expressed her excitement about performing amid major sports events like the Euro and the Olympics. She wrote, “I can’t think of a better way to enjoy the summer and end this beautiful phase of my life and career than with concerts close to home.”
Following Adele in Munich, she will continue her “Weekends with Adele” residency in Las Vegas from October 25 to November 23. She plans to take a “big break” after her U.S. tour. In a July interview with German broadcaster ZDF, Adele mentioned wanting to explore creative pursuits and has no plans for new music due to “lack of energy after the long Las Vegas tour.” Fans may have to wait a while for her next album.
Adele, a renowned British singer, has won 16 Grammy Awards and sold over 120 million records. She married entrepreneur Simon Konecki in 2018 but divorced after three years. They share a 12-year-old son, Angelo. Following the separation, Adele focused on parenting and is currently dating Rich Paul, a prominent sports agent.
