Shawn Mendes Postpones Album Release Just Days Before: “I Need More Time”
Shawn Mendes surprised fans with an announcement on Wednesday, October 9, revealing that his upcoming album, Shawn, will be delayed. Originally set to release on October 18, the new drop date is now November 15. Mendes shared the news on his Instagram Story, explaining the reason behind the last-minute change: “Hey guys. My team and I have decided to push the album release date to November 15th. We just need a little bit more time to bring some new inspiration and ideas to life.”
Alongside the announcement, the 26-year-old singer posted a behind-the-scenes photo from a recent shoot, where he’s seen holding a guitar in front of a warm orange backdrop. He also expressed gratitude to his fans for their continued support: “I love you guys, thank you for being so patient. I can’t wait to see you guys at the next few shows x.”
Fans have had mixed reactions to the sudden delay. While some offered understanding and encouragement, others were caught off guard by how close the change came to the original release date. “Shawn, we know that as a person and artist sometimes it takes time. We’re looking forward to the album with lots of love and respect when it’s ready in November,” one fan commented. On the other hand, some expressed frustration over the abruptness of the announcement. “Take your time but this is so last minute. No hate, but we were literally ONE week away from the album,” another fan shared.
The album, Shawn, is expected to be Mendes’ most personal work yet. First announced in July, the record promises to showcase his most “musically intimate and lyrically honest” songs to date. Mendes has released three singles so far: “Why Why Why,” “Isn’t That Enough,” and “Nobody Knows.” He’s also set to continue his “friends and family only” concert series later this month with sold-out shows in major cities like Nashville, Brooklyn, and Los Angeles.
In his own reflection about the upcoming album, Mendes shared, “Music really can be medicine. Two years ago, I had no idea who I was. A year ago, I couldn’t even step into a studio without feeling panic. So, to be here now with 12 beautiful finished songs feels like such a gift.”
Despite the delay, Mendes’ heartfelt words and promise of new inspiration have kept fans hopeful that the extra wait will be worth it.
