Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg frequently shares glimpses of his life with his wife, Priscilla Chan, on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram. One of his recent posts features a stunning statue of his wife displayed behind their home, showcasing his affection and admiration for her.
On August 14, Zuckerberg uploaded photos and videos of the statue, captioning it: “Bringing back the Roman tradition with the sculpture of my wife.” He expressed gratitude towards the statue’s creator, Daniel Arsham, a renowned sculptor based in New York, known for his collaborations with numerous celebrities.
In the image shared by Zuckerberg, Priscilla Chan is seen enjoying tea next to the nearly double-height statue. The artwork features a turquoise main figure surrounded by iridescent bands that resemble wings, making it a visually striking piece. The post has garnered over 250,000 likes and 5,300 comments, with many users praising Zuckerberg’s display of love after 20 years of marriage. Comments ranged from admiration to playful envy, with one user noting, “Husbands everywhere are shaking after Zuckerberg’s act of pampering his wife,” while another remarked, “Only Zuckerberg could do that if he loved his wife so much that he carved a statue to look at.”
However, not all feedback has been positive. The tradition of creating Roman statues was historically associated with commemorating deceased relatives or honoring important figures. This has led some to criticize Zuckerberg’s statue as “over the top” given its potential implications.
Earlier this year, Zuckerberg also shared a humorous video titled “When your wife catches you hiding in a bunker,” which showed Priscilla leading the person filming down to their basement, where she discovered Zuckerberg and two friends engrossed in a video game. The Meta CEO’s reaction upon being discovered was a playful, “Yeah, we’ll be up in a few minutes.”
Mark and Priscilla first crossed paths in 2003 at a Harvard fraternity party. In a 2013 interview, Chan recalled that Zuckerberg was an “A student” who showed immediate interest in her. “I turned around and said, ‘I’m going to be expelled in three days, so we have to go on a date quickly,’” Zuckerberg humorously recounted in a 2017 interview. To impress her, he even took the initiative to learn Chinese, proudly sharing that he sometimes spoke it better than Chan.
Their wedding, held in May 2012, was a simple affair with around 100 guests in their backyard. Many attendees initially thought it was a celebration of Chan’s master’s degree until she appeared in a white dress. In a 2019 Facebook post, Zuckerberg shared that he created a night light to help Chan sleep better, addressing her struggles with insomnia after giving birth. This low-light device allowed her to monitor when one of them needed to wake up for the children, easing her anxiety.
Zuckerberg frequently expresses admiration for Chan, celebrating milestones and her achievements. On November 14, 2014, he wrote: “I met an amazing girl exactly 11 years ago today. Priscilla, thank you for being there for me and helping me answer questions about the world as we grow together.” When the couple appeared on the cover of Time magazine in 2016, he emphasized Chan’s dedication to her work in hospitals and classrooms, stating, “I hope she inspires the world with the strength, kindness, and compassion that I love so much.”
The couple values their relationship and makes it a priority to dedicate one day a week for a date night, as Chan explained in a 2019 interview: “Dating was Mark’s idea. We didn’t talk about work at all during this time.” This commitment to nurturing their relationship amidst their busy lives highlights the depth of their bond.
