Jake Paul Declares: “Mike Tyson Will Be My Next Defeated Opponent”
American YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul has once again proven his boxing prowess, winning via technical knockout against bare-knuckle fighter Mike Perry in the sixth round. After the victory, Paul confidently announced that he still aims to take on boxing legend Mike Tyson in the near future.
Originally, Mike Tyson was scheduled to fight Jake Paul on July 20 at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium with 80,000 seats, a highly anticipated match to be streamed live on Netflix. However, due to a health issue while traveling, Tyson had to withdraw, pushing the event to November 15.
With Tyson out, Mike Perry stepped in as Paul’s opponent for the July 20 fight in Tampa, Florida. Perry, with an MMA record of 14 wins and 8 losses (all in the UFC), has never contended for a title. In October 2021, after leaving the UFC, Perry signed with Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC) and secured five straight victories, the latest against former BKFC middleweight champion Thiago Alves in April 2024.
Jake Paul’s Technical Knockout Over Mike Perry
Perry’s smaller frame put him at a disadvantage against Jake Paul. Paul took control in the first round, knocking Perry down with a precise right hand. He continued to dominate, landing jabs and another knockdown just 30 seconds into the second round.
Though Perry had a strong third round, cutting Paul’s left eye, Paul regained control in the fourth round. Paul pinned Perry to the ropes, delivering a third knockdown before the referee stopped the fight at 1:12 into the sixth round.
CompuBox statistics revealed Paul’s superiority in the bout. Over six rounds, Paul threw 226 punches with 96 landing, boasting a 43% accuracy rate. Perry, on the other hand, threw 122 punches, connecting with only 33 for a 27% accuracy rate. Paul landed 37% of his jabs, and 44 of his power punches connected, doubling Perry’s output.
“You were too fast for me, and I couldn’t adjust. Paul didn’t stand there waiting to get hit like I did,” Perry admitted after the fight.
Jake Paul Sets His Sights on Mike Tyson
While praising Perry’s efforts, Paul reaffirmed his intent to fight Mike Tyson later this year. “I took some hits, but Perry was hurt too. Mike Tyson will be my next victim. Anytime, anywhere,” the confident 27-year-old declared.
Tyson responded to Paul’s challenge on social media with a countdown message. “The countdown begins: 118 days. 16 weeks and 6 days. 17 weekends. 169,920 minutes. 10,195,200 seconds,” wrote the 58-year-old boxing legend.
Jake Paul, who rose to fame as an American YouTuber, entered the world of professional boxing in 2020. With 11 bouts to his name, he has won nine and lost only once – a loss to Tommy Fury, brother of heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, in February 2023. According to Sunsport, Paul’s net worth is estimated at $35 million, while Tyson’s is around $10 million.
