Shawn Mendes has officially canceled the remainder of his world tour, opting to put his mental health first. The 24-year-old singer-songwriter announced the decision on social media, revealing that he will no longer be performing at scheduled stops in North America and Europe.
“I was not at all ready for how difficult touring would be after this time away,” Mendes shared with his fans. “After speaking with my team and working with an incredible group of health professionals, it has become clear that I need to take the time I’ve never taken personally to ground myself and come back stronger.”
The tour, in support of his 2020 album Wonder, had initially kicked off in June. However, earlier in the month, Mendes paused the tour to take a brief three-week break, hoping to recover and continue. Unfortunately, the break has now extended to a full cancellation as the pop star realized he needed more time to focus on his well-being.
Shawn Mendes, known for chart-topping hits like “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back,” “If I Can’t Have You,” and “Señorita,” the latter of which features his ex-girlfriend Camila Cabello, has been a constant presence in the music industry. But after navigating the challenges of touring post-pandemic, he felt it was necessary to take a step back.
In his heartfelt message to fans, Mendes explained, “I was hopeful that I might be able to pick up with the rest of the dates after some much-needed time off, but at this time I have to put my health as my first priority.”
Despite the disappointment of the tour’s cancellation, the singer assured his loyal fans that this break does not mark the end of his music career. He promised, “I will continue to make music, and I will be back as soon as I’ve taken the right time to heal.”
Mendes’ transparency and openness about his mental health struggles have resonated with fans worldwide, many of whom have expressed support and understanding during this challenging time.
