Tyler Perry and BET Media Group are expanding their collaboration, delivering 600 hours of Perry’s original shows to free, ad-supported streaming channels. This strategic move will make some of Perry’s most popular series available to a broader audience without the need for a subscription, offering access to his content for the first time on FAST channels (Free Ad-Supported Television).
Starting in July, fans of Tyler Perry can enjoy eight different series across various platforms, including The Roku Channel, Pluto TV, Plex, TCL, and FreeVee. The content will be divided across two distinct channels: the BET Tyler Perry Comedy Channel and the BET Tyler Perry Drama Channel. This arrangement allows viewers to access Perry’s renowned dramas and comedies without any paywall.
Louis Carr, president of sales at BET Media Group, shared the significance of this decision in an interview with Fast Company, emphasizing how this move helps bring Perry’s work to a larger audience. “A great majority of Tyler Perry’s content has never been available outside of a paywall,” Carr noted. “Whether it’s his series for Turner or even for BET, consumers typically had to pay for it. Now, they can access his library for free, which is a big deal.”
By offering these shows on free streaming platforms, BET Media Group aims to build on the enduring success of Perry’s content, which has consistently resonated with audiences. This move marks a significant shift, as much of Perry’s previous work was available only to paying subscribers through networks or platforms like BET+ and cable services.
Perry’s unique blend of comedy and drama has garnered a loyal following over the years, and this initiative will introduce his shows to new viewers who may not have had the chance to watch them before. It also reflects BET Media Group’s ongoing commitment to expanding their streaming services and offering diverse, high-quality content to a wider audience.
Stay tuned for further developments in the evolving partnership between Tyler Perry and BET Media Group, as more exciting announcements are expected.
