Dilraba Dilmurat’s New Film “Mu Si Si” Sparks Controversy: Character Designs Fail to Impress Viewers
Actress Dilraba Dilmurat is currently filming the new historical drama Mu Si Si, where she stars alongside young actor Chen Feiyu. While the storyline contains many intriguing elements, the initial character designs, as revealed in early promotional images, have drawn widespread negative reactions from the public.
Age Gap and Character Designs Cause a Stir
Dilraba and Chen Feiyu have a significant age difference in real life, with Dilraba being eight years older than her co-star. This disparity is even more apparent when both actors appear together in matching black costumes, creating a somewhat jarring visual. Some viewers commented that Dilraba looked more like a “stepmother” next to her “stepson” or even like an aunt and nephew, sparking mixed reactions.
Moreover, the costumes themselves were criticized for lacking creativity and were even accused of copying designs from other popular shows such as Love Between Fairy and Devil and Eternal Love. This has left many fans dissatisfied.
Outdated Costumes Lack Careful Attention
Despite featuring well-known actors like Dilraba and Chen Feiyu, the production of Mu Si Si has been criticized for its apparent lack of investment in costume design. Notably, Chen Feiyu’s outfit was said to closely resemble one worn by actor Chen Xiao in A Dream of Splendor. Fans were disappointed, feeling that such renowned actors deserved custom-designed costumes instead of reused ones.
Sharp-eyed viewers also noticed that some of the outfits appeared faded and misshapen due to overuse. However, others supported the reuse of costumes, citing the need to reduce waste and promote environmental sustainability.
Mu Si Si is adapted from the novel White Day Lantern by Li Qingnian. The plot revolves around the touching love story between the demon queen Xia Si Mu and a young general, Duan Si. Xia Si Mu has lived for 400 years but lacks five key senses needed to become fully human. Her encounter with Duan Si changes her life, as the young general may hold the key to helping her achieve her goal of becoming whole. Together, they endure trials and challenges, transcending the boundaries of the three realms to be together.
In addition to Dilraba and Chen Feiyu, the cast of Mu Si Si includes talented actors such as Wei Zheming, Gao Han, Zhao Yiqin, and An Yuexi. With its combination of a stellar cast and a compelling storyline, Mu Si Si is expected to draw significant attention from audiences, despite the controversy surrounding its character designs.
