British actor Jude Law has impressed critics with his performance in The Order, which is competing for the Golden Lion at the 2024 Venice Film Festival. The film, directed by Justin Kurzel, earned a seven-minute standing ovation during its premiere. Reviews have been highly positive, with particular praise for Law’s portrayal of FBI agent Terry Husk, described as one of the most profound and dynamic performances of his career.
Next Best Picture highlighted Law’s compelling presence as he takes on the role of a courageous character with a mysterious past. The Guardian noted, “Law brings warmth and occasional irritation to the role of Husk, demonstrating his confidence in his craft. His chemistry with Nicholas Hoult adds to the film’s allure.”
The film is based on the non-fiction book The Silent Brotherhood (1989) by Kevin Flynn and Gary Gerhardt. Set in the 1980s, the story follows FBI agent Terry Husk as he uncovers a criminal group behind a series of bank robberies. This gang prints counterfeit money and robs armored trucks, instilling fear across the Pacific Northwest. Husk sets out to track down the gang, led by Robert Jay Mathews (Nicholas Hoult). The cast also includes Tye Sheridan, Jurnee Smollett, Alison Oliver, and Odessa Young.
Jude Law, 52, is a renowned British actor known for films such as Cold Mountain, The Aviator, Contagion, and The Holiday. Over his career, Law has won a BAFTA, received two Oscar nominations, and been nominated for four Golden Globe Awards. He previously attended the Venice Film Festival to promote The Young Pope in 2016.
