“Prince of Asia” Lee Kwang Soo Stars in Vietnam-Korea Film Collaboration
According to News1 (South Korea), Lee Kwang Soo, affectionately known as the “Prince of Asia,” is set to star in the upcoming Vietnam-Korea film Dreams of You (working title). The movie, directed by Kim Seong Hoon, is set to begin filming soon, with Lee Kwang Soo taking on the lead role of Kang Joon Woo, a highly successful South Korean actor.
On August 8th, News1 and various media outlets announced the final cast for Dreams of You, revealing Lee Kwang Soo as the male lead. Kang Joon Woo, the character he portrays, is a successful actor from South Korea who travels to Vietnam for a commercial shoot. While in Vietnam, he encounters Thảo, played by Hoàng Hà, a pure-hearted Vietnamese woman with dreams of becoming a professional barista. As Kang Joon Woo experiences the vibrant culture of Vietnam, he finds himself on a journey of self-discovery and romance.
Speaking about Dreams of You, Lee Kwang Soo shared, “Through this film, I hope to showcase a different side of myself as an actor. Audiences can look forward to a romantic comedy that resonates with them, rather than just a sweet dream.”
Lee Kwang Soo is a well-known name in Vietnam, primarily due to his long-running participation in the hit South Korean variety show Running Man. He joined the show in July 2010 and quickly became a fan favorite, not only in Korea but across Asia, earning him the title “Prince of Asia.” However, in June 2021, Lee Kwang Soo bid farewell to Running Man after 11 years, leaving a significant void for both the cast and the show’s devoted fans.
In addition to his variety show fame, Lee Kwang Soo has an impressive filmography, including roles in It’s Okay, That’s Love, Heartbeat, Live, The Accidental Detective 2: In Action, The Pirates: The Last Royal Treasure, and Tazza: One-Eyed Jack. Dreams of You is a romantic comedy that centers around the sweet love story between Kang Joon Woo and Thảo. Alongside Lee Kwang Soo and Hoàng Hà, the film also features performances from Eum Moon Seok, Duy Khánh, and others. Directed by Kim Seong Hoon, known for his hit films Confidential Assignment, Rampant, and 1958 Bureau of Investigation, Dreams of You is scheduled to begin filming in Vietnam and South Korea in August. The film is set for a worldwide release, including in South Korea and Vietnam, in the first half of 2025.
